Hardly. My academic training is in mathematics, a field in
which the emphasis is very much doing one's own reasoning.
With the exception of a very elementary introductory course
that I took about 45 years ago from the delightful
sociolinguist Ron Macaulay, I'm entirely self-taught in
linguistics.

But your attitude towards academic training is yet another
of the typical stigmata of the crackpot.
