I once suggested here that Gmc. labiovelars were delabialised before
apophonic *o corresponding to Jens's "O-infix", as in *gWHor-mo- and
*gWolbHo(s)- > *kalBa(z)- 'calf', but not in the pronominal *kWo- >
*xWa-. There are likely exceptions and complications, and the whole
problem is certainly worth reopening.
