I can't give a full tutorial, only rules of thumb which I found by trial and error.

1) All funny characters are available under
All programs -> Accessories(?) -> System Tools(?) -> Character Table(?)
all names translated from the Danish ones on my PC, thus approximate!
Keep it open while you post.

2) When replying a posting in UTF-8, before clicking 'reply', set your browser representation to UTF-8
Firefox: scrolldown View -> Character Encoding
and then either -> UTF-8
or, if not present -> More Encodings -> Unicode -> UTF-8
Chrome: scrolldown -> Tools -> Encoding -> UTF-8
Safari: left scrolldown -> Encoding (?, mine's in Danish) -> UTF-8
If by chance you are halfway through writing your text and you discover that an encoding other than UTF-8 is on, be sure to save (with cursor in text, ctrl-a, ctrl-c) your text before setting the browser to UTF-8 (which in many browsers will restore the text you are editing to that of the posting you are replying to), then paste (ctrl-v)

3) Replace unrepresentable characters in your text
long e (e with macron) -> e:
long hyphen -> short hyphen (minus)
capital Greek letters -> small Greek letters

3) In general, click 'Preview' before clicking 'Send' to check if all characters in the posting can be represented; be aware, however, that the characters mentioned in 2) will show up correctly in preview, but *not* in the posting on the site, so be sure to replace them first in the text (one at a time, use 'Find', ctrl-f)

That's all I know.
