That would imply that the Slavs learned about books from the Turkic peoples before they dispersed into Europe.

Or before their languages ceased to be mutually incomprehensible.  Slavs were in contact with Turkic speakers from at least the time of the Avars, if not the time of the Huns --so, let's say 300-600 AD? Would that be a good time frame?
