While his serious interests clearly include ethnography,
anthropology, and archaeology, he is indeed a a linguist.
And Francesco is hardly the first to describe him as a
long-ranger: Paul Sidwell once wrote in a review that
'Blench is clearly under the spell of the macro-phylaphilia,
an infantile disorder from which I myself have only recently
made a full recovery'.
