The normal rule, however, is that PIU *#j > *j in PU and *H in PIE. Uralic generally preserves the vowels better and PIU *ä > PU *ä and PIE *e. So far everything works according to plan, but it falls apart on *N. PU *VNV corrensponds to PIE *VngH. I'm guessing that the PIE *g/*k is some kind of root determinitive.
