Abaev's dictionary gives:

gakk | igakæ 'metka na skote (prizhigaemaja ili nadrezhaemaja)'.
~ Po-vidimomu, tak nazyvalsja pervonachal'no krjuchkoobraznyj
zheleznyj instrument, kotorym nanosili metku; sr. gruz. k'ak'vi
'krjuk', 'krjuchok'. Mozhet byt', sjuda zhe gak'on 'zigzag'.
