Brian, I try to keep it simple for you:
the 'son-in-law' genes will arrive to your offsprings too together with your genes...

so 'to beget' -> 'family' -> 'clan' , 'son-in-law' is OK


Now is your turn to explain :

'to know' -> 'son-in-law' :)

why not

'to know' -> 'dog' supposing that you know well your dogs :) or 'horse' or 'sheep'
