Could there be some etymological relationship between Greek Sea-God Poseidon and Avestan Dragon-king Az^i Daha:ka (Dahag, Zahhak)? Daha:ka seems to be relate to Sansk. da:sa-, dasyu- "foreign enemy, foreign man, human (with pejorative later development "slave", cf. Greek doulos <*doselos). Vedic names Divoda:s (divine man) and Suda:s ("good man") preserve the original meaning,
Posei-dahon < *das-on ? From an older *Posei-das? Potidas? (cf. Dasyupati- and Greek des-pot-e:s). Their PIE prototype would be an ophidian deity, mischievous and circunstancially evil, linked to outsiders and people out of the IE religion's and culture's borders.
Or, alternatively, some derivative from *deh2- "to share".
Avestan Az^i Daha:ka particular traits included elements of the PIE Three-headed-Enemy and the Semitic dragons.
I'd like to see your comments.
