"Why Homeric heroes love throwing rocks? They throw rocks at each other even if they still have their swords. Some of the great victims or would-be victims of rock throwing: Hector, Aeneas, Hector's charioteer. I picked this commentary in a blog, and now I add to it a mythological doubt: Could these rock-throwing acts represent some IE mythic weapon?
The Iliad background seems clearly a belief that Heroes' Age's ancient men were much stronger than Iron Age's people. Heroes like Ajax or Aeneas could lift several hundred of kilograms easily.
