A friend and colleague of mine, Elzbieta Adamczyk, has recently read a
conference paper entitled "On the fate of the PIE *-es/-os stems in
Germanic: evidence from Gothic, Old English and Old High German". The
paper discusses the decline and the occasional revival of those stems in
Germanic. If anyone is interested in her findings, I'm sure she will be
