Skt. ati-ya:- 'pass by, surpass' contains the _prefix_ <ati-> 'over,
beyond, super-', occurring in hundreds of Sanskrit words. The
corresponding PIE adverb/preposition is *h2at-o-/*h2at- i (also with
meanings like 'away (from)', most likely from the root *h2at- 'go on,
keep walking, run' (Skt. átati would be a better illustration) .
Well-known derivatives include *h2át-no- 'year' (> Lat. annus).
