The subjective in Spanish is very easy:
To form it "Go to yo, drop -o and swticheroo."
You use it with WEIRDO verbs (Wish/Will/Want-Emotion-Impersonal emotive/opinion-Request-Doubt/Denial/Ojalá); also with actions or state of being outside the realm of existence.
English has subjunctive, but it's even harder to teach, since it's only used in impersonal statements of emotion, volition, doubt or request. English past subjuctive is only apparent in "to be".
And Spanish speakers avoid subjunctive like the plague in many areas, especially Mexico and Central America.

Like English-speakers, Spanish-speakers are considerate of foreigners who mangle the language. George Bush claimed to speak Spanish. Had he made such a claim about French, he would have been guillotined tout de suite.
