Ok, now this is just wild speculation and it's probably the crack
talking but....


Njord's home is Noatun. Simek gives the meaning as ON 'Place for
ships' , 'ship town'. Simek states it is derived from PIE *Nau- (though
Simek gives it as *Naus-) meaning 'ship' (ON no'r, Old Indian nau,
Latin navis)


Is there any way to linguistically connect *Nau- with the aquatic
deities Nodens (Nuada) and Nechtan?
