*sneurom > nervum

silva has been compared to both xylos "wood" and hyle:"woods, forest".

I'd compare milvus "kite" to Greek mermnos "kite" and OHG smerlo "merlin", perhaps through *merlivos. mermnos < *merbnos < *mergWnos; or *merdmos ?

Adding:
If aulos shows metathesis: alvus, why not tauros > tarvus? And how about *eulos? > *erwos, too? Is it possible a metathesis in *kseula- > *selwa > silva ?

and does Greek hulos "wood, matter" somehow fit into this?
