Would any of our Iranists (or Hellenists perhaps) care to take a crack at this?
The Satarchae (Satarchai; Satarchei) were an important Late Scythian population, based primarily (though not exclusively) in the Crimea. They are first mentioned in an inscription of Neapolis Scythica ca. 125 BCE. Pomponius Mela, Pliny, Ptolemy, and Jordanes have pertinent passages. Solinus thought they had migrated in from beyond the Syr Darya (Iaxartes).
Many subsequently acculturated with the Goths and followed them into Western Europe in the aftermath of the Hun invasion.
