I do not know if he is bad, he is just wasting his time with his nuttish logic. May be he is doing this for a chuckle, because he is just dumped by his wife , may be his credit card is bouncing or just he had defaulted on entire year mortgage payments or as you said, he must be plain crazy but he is not realizing he is wasting time.
