Yes, they should be. But we the moderators are partly to blame for what
happened. It seems nobody was about to spot the trouble in time and
prevent the escalation of mutual hostility. That's why I'm inclined to
let the culprits get away with it just this once. Nevertheless, I'm
dismayed to see such aggressiveness and abysmally bad manners on the
list. Those guilty of it should be ashamed of themselves.

Right. We have had trouble-makers in the past but what's happening is
worse than anything I've seen for years. Anyway, I'll keep an eye on the
most notorious offenders and I won't hesitate to ban _all_ of them the
very moment they start another fight.
