Indeed, the verbal derivation of the noun súly reflects the /u:j/
conversion to /üj/. /u:j/ > /üj/
(Here, in súly, a strange kind of /u:j/ diphtong -- it has a long
/u:/,which in Romanian is impossible: vowel lengths are irrelevant,
unlike in Hungarian. In contrast, the diphtong in the verb süllyed
/'Sü-jaed/ or /'Sül-jaed/ contains a short /ü/. If the /ü/ is long,
then it has to be written with two accents égus. (Hence the ASCII
mess on various computer platforms.)
