I will provide one more explanation.
One is PU *wuGka
Two is PU *kukto- or *kiktu
Privative suffix : -ikt-
Locative *so
Eight : with two missing :
*kukto-ikt-so > *kahtäktso
Nine : with one missing
*wuGka-ikt-so > *wüGkäktso
Finnish displays intrusion : eight on nine
hence kahdeksan
and rearranged üh-dek-san
Cheremis also displays this intrusion.
*kahtäkso > *kaNdesh
*wüGkäktso > üNgesh > rearranged üNdesh
NB : there is no intrusion of -n- but assimilation.
Mordvin has deletion of the second syllable :
hence kah--ktso > kafkso / kafksa
hence wüG--ktso > wei(h)kso / wei(h)ksa
There is no IE *dek in any of these words.
