France has occupied this area for about five generations,
from about 1830 to the late 1950ies.
And they have not been able to get rid of French,
even though they have tried to.
It's always fascinating for me to see
that their TV programs are very often in French.
By the way, French colonialism thought it could turn anybody French
even a Senegalese, so that many people in colonies were taught
"Nos ancêtres les Gaulois"...
Rather odd, when you are Togolese or Vietnamese.
