In Vulgar and Mediaeval Latin more such "reduplications" were formed
((re)spondidit, prendidit). The Class. perf. of <ascendo:> is always
<ascendi:>, as far as I'm aware. The "one -di- too many" perfects are
rather obviously analogical after <vendidi:t>. Note that <spondeo:>, in
particular, can't have anything to do with <do:/dedi:/datum>.
