Some of the weak nouns (nasal stems) are old Hoffmann formations. One
fairly certain case is *Gum-an- (nom.sg. *Gum-o~:) 'man' <
*(dH)g^Hm.-h3on-. There are also numerous derivatives with suffixes
added to *-h3(o)n-, including *junGa- 'young' < *ju:nGa- < *juwn.ká- <
*h2ju-h3n.-k^ó- (Ved. yuvas'á-, Lat. iuvencus), formed from a Hoffmann
compound preserved in Sanskrit (*h1jú-h3o:n/*h2ju-h3n-os > Ved.
yúva:/yú:nas 'young (man)').
