Watkins certainly does have *stegH- 'to stick, prick;
pointed': <http://bartleby.com/61/roots/IE497.html>. It's
perfectly true that Watkins doesn't assign <stake> to this
root, but rather to *steg- 'pole, stick'; *stegH- seems
semantically quite appropriate, however.
