"FM *veneš `boat' (> Finn. vene(h) `boat', Lapp. Mord. id.)

< IE/Pre-Aryan/Early Indo-Aryan wen-(e/o-) > OInd. ván- (root
noun) `wood', vána- (n.) `wood, tree; timber; wooden vessel'. — *veneš
was an "Einbaum": a dug-out stem used as a canoe/boat/vessel

Helimski thinks this is entirely without foundation, and offers the
following mirthful dialogue to illustrate this:"

"Whereas some items may be borrowed from Proto-Indo-European and some
from the so called Satem group, mostly from Indo-Iranian, it is very
likey that most similar morphenes are so by mere chance. This seems
especially the case with shot gammatical endings with plura -i (Fodor
1976, p. 116, Current Antrhopology)"

"Possible relationships of Uralic with Semito Hamatic, Munda (India),
Bantu, and many East Asian languages have also been investigated. These
reports are reviewd in Ural-Atlatische Jarbucher..(Fodor 1976)"
