While a modern accountant may not do the 'heaping up', he certainly does the
accounting.

We are looking at multi-functional scribes.

Supply-demand?

In ancient days, one knew what would sell, and what not. Of course, the
ruler, if he was not in on the take, would limit profits to get the favor of
the common people.
