Economic analysis of Indian History: meaning of Aryan

Dear all,
Can any one throw the economic interpretations of the word Aryan?
Sociologically, the root Ar simply means man (as in Arthur), with
implications of nobility at a later stage. In accordance with the
colonial goals, Dowson (who represented the colonial view of Hinduism)
ascribes a meaning 'loyal".
However, an economic implication seems to attach this word with
metals- more with Gold and even, perhaps Iron.
I would like the group to discuss the word from this point of view.
regards,
