I admit that what I've seen and read is in popular
literature and isn't the most reliable. I've seen
pictures of Egyptian paintings of Libu with red hair
and blue eyes. I've read popular literature that
speaks of blond hair and blue eyes among the Berbers
in classical, i.e. pre Vandal times. But I've never
read a classical source that makes such a claim,
although there are sources from the 1400s or so that
speak of the Guanches as having blond hair and blue
eyes, although other sources contradict this and other
say both blonds and brunettes lived there (see the
Wikipedia article on the Guanches).
The charts I've seen of blue eyes in N. Africa are
concentrated toward Morocco, not Tunisia and Algeria
where the Vandals settled.
There is a certain strata of vocabulary in Tamazight
documented by Hubschmidt et al. that also exists as
substrate in Spain et al. I don't know if this has
anything at all to do with blue eyes or if Hubschmidt
is reliable or not --I've read that some saw him as on
the edge but I don't know if that means ruhlenesque or
they were just anal-retentive conservatives.
