Wikipedia explain a bit about them. Evidently some
Caucasian languages have as many as 8.
The general pattern, if I understand correctly is
Masculine
Feminine
Animate non-human
Inanimate
--although it's often ideosyncratic
Does this pattern correspond with what you have in
mind?
