Because it was no longer recognized as a component of *Ha(:)wes-, it was
incorporated in the PIE word for 'dawn' and 'sun': *sa:wel/n-.

Well, I guess we know you do not read Graves.

Because of its similar qualities, the poisonous snake was substituted for
the spider in most cultures - quite an upgrade!
