I have a paper by R. S. P. Beekes, ``The Origin of the Etruscans'' that proposes the Lydian origin. It is dated 2003.

Beekes is hardly your next-door crackpot...

In simple terms, the answer is no.
There are always theories, some odder than others, but no consensus.
