This is at best a considerable oversimplification. There
are place-names containing OE <wealh> 'a Welshman', usually
in the gen. pl. (<weala>), all over Britain, indicating the
continued presence of communities of Britons.
Moreover, if I remember correctly, British migration to
Brittany began in Roman times and was mostly from the
southwest, which the Anglo-Saxons reached relatively late.
