That's a good question
In some dialects of Southern US English, /str/, /Sr/
are replaced by /skr/ e.g.: "skreet", "skrimp"
I've heard this in Mississippi and among
African-American students from the Carolinas
So it could be fashion
Other cases may be through analogy, whether true or
false, or false etymology
