According to Watkins, Latin ab-ole:re 'to retard the growth of,
abolish' is derived from suffixed (causative) form *ol-eye- of the
root *al- 'to nourish, grow', so pre-form was *H2el- > *al-. (Pokorny
2.al-26.)

According to Mallory-Adams the root is *H3elH1- 'to destroy', based as
well on Hit hulla:(i)- 'combat, fight'.

I wonder could also Alb sh-part-alloj 'smash, crush, hammer, rout,
literally - in equally destroying form, thoroughly destroyed' be a
good candidate, with variant from partall(e) 'dead bones; old and
worthless odds and ends: old junk', as verb partall-is = shpartalloj,
if part- is old locative of *parë-/palë- 'pair' or variant form of
*per-/port- `forward, early, before, against, at'.
Much more interesting is Alb hall `trouble, disappointment, sorrow'
from probably *H1ol-no with denominative hall-a-kat `disperse,
scatter, throw about', deverbative hallakamë `disorder, mess,
disturbance, alarm' with regular preserving of *h1 as /h/.

So, despite the fact that *H3el- was attested in Hittite, I think that
also *H1ol- or *H1/H3el- is also possible as reconstructed form.
