In Costa Rica, where the Quirós are an aristocratic
family, they say
"Al lado de Dios, Quirós"
I think the Costa Rican Quirós are of Asturian
ancestry
Your derivation seems interesting but given that the
last names in question are, I believe, Galician,
Asturian and N. Portuguese, then why not Celtic *kaet-
(vel sim)? "wood, forest, etc."?
