Yes, such interpretation is very old. According to this derivation,
Latin have used ma:lo, ma:lui, malle 'to love' instead of supposed
*mavolo < *magis-volo. But, in this case we have to deal with verb
and in Albanian with noun.
Semantically, Albanian meaning 'love, desire, longing, homesick'
of 'mall' is more related to Germanic and Latin, as well as to
Slavic vol-iti 'to love, desire', cf. mall i parë 'first love', me
mall 'with love', e kam mall dikë/diçka 'I love too much
someone/something' etc.
