*wel- `to wish, will'. 1. Alb mall `longing, yearning, homesickness,
nostalgia' probably from prefixed form *mH1- `big, more' + *wolo `big
wish/will' due to rule VDV = V; b. mall i parë `first love'; c. adj i
përmallshëm `sentimental, touching, moving; nostalgic'; d. i
përmalluar `homesic', participle adjective of përmalloj `to feel
deeply touched (emotionally)', synonymic with mallëngjej `id.'. 2. Alb
pcl vallë `I wonder, I suppose, perhaps', used usually as petrified
particle with primary meaning `I wish' in questions, tentatively
suggesting a statement for confirmation, related to Germanic
*willan 'to desire', Latin velle `to wish, will' etc.
It was supposed that it is a loan from Latin malum `evil, misfortune'
from Meyer to the Orel, that is, semantically speaking, nonsense etc.
(Pokorny 2. wel- 1137.)
