The kind of reconstruction developed by the Neogrammarians (including
Brugmann) about 1880. Older and conservative etymological dictionaries
(such as Pokorny) followed its conventions. The most important
difference between the old model and modern reconstructions is the
absence of the laryngeals from the former.
