Met(t)ius is probably derived from the Oscan term meddiss
('magistrate'?), the title of the office this king of Alba Longa is
presumed to have held.

Fufetius, in all likelihood a fictitious name, appears to be a play
on the name of the Roman gens Fufidia.

See J.D. Noonan's paper (pay-per-view) at

http://caliber.ucpress.net/doi/abs/10.1525/ca.2006.25.2.327

I only could "spy" the aforesaid etymologies discussed in the paper
through a complicate googling process, but I have no access to the
full text of the paper!

Regards,
Francesco
