We should expect an original pair *H1ro:melos and *Yemos.
-elos, an old gentillic suffix?
Ro:ma: > *ro:m/elo/s > Romulus
Alba > *alb/elo/s ? > *albulus
Capua > *capu/elos ? > capu:lus?

Janiculus < *Ja:nu/ik/elo/s ?

Italic languages had also gentillic suffixes -iko (Osci, Aurrunci) and -ino (Sabinus, Latinus)

And how about the suffix in Latium and Samnium (Safiniom)?

Piotr, could you find counter-examples in Latin similar
with /h1rom.hu.los/ (accented on u) but with no lengthening?

Thanks,
