It looks to me more like a case of *xán-x-tí:x >

xán-x-tí:x
xán-a-tí:x
etc.
xánati
xánanti (contamination)
náxanti (met.)
náxantsi
láxantsi

The contamination would be from fem. nouns in
*-óntí:x > *-anti:
