If one can live with -dh + -t- -> -ddh-, -d + t- -> -tt-, -t + t- ->
-tt-, ie a mix of progressive and regressive assimilation, then yes.
The need is morphological, not phonological. Actually what I'm edging
toward is that the ppp contains the Ur-root of *dhe:- "put"/*do:-
"give", but I can't say it directly yet, since I don't know yet what
caused the alternation d/dh.
BTW, the similarity between Ossetic and Germanic verb formation is not
limited to weak verbs type 1b, as in

I seems that the alternation between ppp-extensions -T-/-id- is
widespread. One gets the impression that the purpose of the extra
vowel in the -id- suffix was to prevent a
voicedness-and-aspiration-changing collision with the verb stem. If
that is the case, then the -d- is the original morpheme.
