Phraktos (and pharktos) seem to have been rare words. Liddell and
Scott translate as "fenced, protected".
The derivative kataphraktos, on the other hand, was quite common. I
knew it as cataphracts or Latin clibanarii, armored cavalrymen, but L&S
give a general meaning "covered, shut up".
I have no idea of the etymology.
