In the posting I was mostly following Maz^iulis, who writes (PKEZ^,
s.v. Neria): "It seems to me that this Baltic substantive *neri-
'coming up (to the surface) <-> diving[...]' was the source for, eg.,
Lith. (rivername) <Neri`s>[...], which would thus derive from (subst.)
*'a river of impetuous, *whirling* current' < *'the diving<->coming up
of flows of water etc.' < *'diving<->coming up etc.'".
