Dansk Etymologisk Ordbog derives Da. hoppe n. ODa., Nw. id.,
Sw. dial. hoppa "mare" from hoppe v. "hop", which I find odd.
Perhaps this is where Est. hobune, Fin. hepo-, hevonen fit in?
