Phonetically speaking, as root *peig'- `cut, mark', with variant
*peik'-, in centum languages *peik-, is identical with *meig'-, with
variant *meik'-, in centum languages *meik-, that getting the
suffix –sk have yielded in Latin mixere `to mix', Alb. <mih> `to
dig' (cf. also rrë-mih `excavete'), but <mushk(ë)> `mule;
literally `mixed animal' etc.
