But Pol. <pojmac'> 'capture' was <poimac'> before the 18th century, and
the unprefixed verb has always been <imac'> (vs. <miec'> 'have' <
*[j]Im-e^-ti). I suspect early confusion between *(j)I- and *(j)i-, made
worse by the fact that both occurred among the *h1em- word-family in
Slavic. At any rate, zero-grade "vr.ddhi" is expected in the iterative.
