My view about Alb. <këmesë> is:
*mai- `to cut'. Oldest form *meH2i-, colored to *maH2i-, contracted to
*mai-. 1. Alb <këmesë> `billhook, bushhook, pruning hook' prefixal
derivative of *ko(m)-mai-t-yeH2. (Pokorny 1. mai- 697.)
Orel thinks that it is derived from <kamë> finding an another form
<kamesë>; Jokl links it to <kep> with suffix -esë; Huld reconstructs
*Hek'mn.-tyeH and Demiraj sees in it a crossing of <kizë> and <kamë>.
I haven't Beeks' book, but I think that his derivation is similar to my
one. It was in Cybalist too, so I will try to find it.
And I found it: Message 28115 confirms yours derivation exactly from it.Note: Suffix -esë usually is added to verb roots: jetoj 'to live', but
abstract noun <jet-esë> 'the way of living', <kujtoj> "I remember",
but <kujt-esë> 'memory', etc.
