That this could be inherited is more likely, since it occurs also in Greek:
*(w)reg-io > rezo ~ (w)ergon)
Peter________"wreak" has no relation to "wrought", which is from Old English worhte, the preterite of wyrcan "to work, perform, etc.". "Wreak" is from wrecan, "to drive, chase, punish, avenge, expel, etc.".
