I see it somewhat differently; starting with values
of h1/2/3 reconstructed for reasons in other
languages:
h1 x^
h2 x
h3 xW
Making the sound system (not all of this is relevant
for this discussion):
Lab Alv Ret Lat PalV Vel RoundV
Vcls p t t. t! k^ k kW
Vcd b d d. d! g^ g gW
Vd A bh dh d.h d!h g^h gh gWh
Fric f s s. ! x^ x xW
Nas m n n. nl n^ N NW
Liq r. l l^ L
Glide y w
High i u
Mid e o
Low a
Syllabic r or l then becomes ra or la before any
consonant in one of the 3 velar series in the same
syllable (not just x^ x xW [h1/2/3]).
Then a > o before x in the same syllable .
Before g^ (and some similar sounds) x > N.
When x^ x xW drop out at the end of a syllable
there is optional metathesis of r/l (similar cases of
metathesis occur such as brum@/burm@).
Finally, o > u.
Other changes reconstructed by others occur during
the above, too.
